HMS Daring is visiting Guernsey this weekend, the ship has a good relationship with our Island and there are a number of on and offshore activities being organised. One of which involves a number of the ship’s crew who are looking to complete a 70 mile charity ride around Guernsey in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation for Guernsey after WW2, they are also looking to raise money for their chosen charity, Headway Guernsey.
This ride is due to take place of Sunday and Paul Jackson has offered to ride with the team and take them on a gentle 70 mile trip around our lovely Island. I was going to add we had ‘keel hauled’ Paul into helping with this ride, to bring in a nautical theme, but I understand this is a form of naval punishment that few ever survived without suffering serious injury or at worst death, so in Paul’s case I suspect he would not consider this challenge as a form of punishment but probably quite the opposite.
We have little information as yet to start time or start point (but I assume it will be the harbour) but if any other club member wishes to join Paul on the ride I am sure he will only be too pleased to have your company and your support would be much appreciated.
We will let members know more information when we have it.
