Thursday night saw the first road bike criterium of the year around the short and twisty circuit at Delancey Park. Criteriums see short, sharp and exciting racing and Thursday was no exception.
There were a number of attacks and bursts of acceleration throughout the race from Leon Ogier, Dan Harradine, Steve Dawes, Paul Brehaut and Morgan Sharpe powered by Adventure Cycles rider Alex Wilson. However, all of these attacks were thwarted, until Matt Osborn managed to break clear from the pack midway through the race. Soon after, Mike Serafin powered his way from the chasing bunch up to Osborn. Tactically this made the race very interesting as Osborn and Serafin both ride for the Morgan Sharpe powered by Adventure Cycles team also. As they were sitting in a comfortable position out front it was up to the other riders to organise themselves and chase them down.
Despite a concerted effort from the chasers, Osborn and Serafin stayed clear to the end with Serafin taking the win. Wilson won the sprint from the chasing bunch which made it a perfect race for the Morgan Sharpe powered by Adventure Cycles team, taking all of the places on the podium - an excellent 1, 2, 3.
Alex Van Katwyk took the honours in the youth race, despite the great efforts of Brad Vaudin, Sam Culverwell and Miles Davey. Thierry Le Cheminant took an excellent victory in the Under 12s race. The next Criterium at Delancey will be on 21 May.
